Well, its a story I’ll never forget…
Intel was having an event in my university research building. They were advertising their new line of “multi-core” processors in a presentation from 7 am to 3 pm. It was on Monday, May 1, 2006.
Now, I hardly ever miss classes….. for any reason! but I guess it was god’s will that I felt the arug to go to that event. I told my instructors that I wont come on Monday (still a model student) and I made my arrangments to attaned the event. I arrived early to the location, and I found the Intel guys working around and getting ready for the event. Now, beening the helping guy that I am, and trying to make the university looks good (so that more events like this happen in campus) I offered my help to one of the guys working there. He thanked me and told me that in case they need any extra hands, they’ll ask for me.
…. so time passed, the event started, and during one of the presentations I learned that they (Intel) are going to open a lab(multi-core related) in the university. Jumping to the chance to work with new technology and learn from experts, I offered to work(for free) in the lab in exchange for learning. They told me that there is a job opening for lab caretaker and they directed me to same guy that I offered my help to in the morning. As it turn out, that guy was “Mr. Alaa AbuNajem, Intel Strategic Relationships manager for the Middeleast, North Africa and Turky”. I still dont know what he saw in me, but he asked me to stay after the event for a quick interview…. and the rest is history.
I passed 2 interviews (the first with an Intel emplyee who have a doctorit from MIT, and the 2nd with Mr.Alaa). For the first interview, I was lucky to be asked about the AI course I listed in my resume, and I just had an exam in the course the previous day! so I remeber everything. I also got to show him my small (experamentl) game in J2ME. In the 2nd interview, Mr.Alaa told me of his intent to hire me and that he will give me the final word on Wednesday.
So on Wednesday I got the news, and I became an Intel emplyee (not officially because of budget issues). But still, I’m happy that I got to put this on my resume; and that I got my first job even before I graduate, and with none other than Intel !
Thank you for reading, have a nice day.
